Wendy 's affinity for solar energy started in childhood: her father worked in the solar energy field in the 1970’s. In later years, Wendy spent time in Israel where there was widespread use of solar power for heating water.
Wendy and Richard started thinking about going solar primarily for environmental reasons. “Residential solar is a great way to reduce energy usage and our carbon footprint, which is important to us in terms of long term climate change but also in terms of energy independence and the geopolitical implications of our energy usage,” said Wendy. “Solar panels are so simple. You put them up and there’s less energy you have to take from other sources.”
Our decision to go solar was based on our values, but the financials made it feasible. It was a no-brainer.
The Halls were very surprised to find out how affordable residential solar panels are. “Our decision to go solar was based on our values, but the financials made it feasible,” said Wendy. As Richard put it, “It was a no-brainer.”
“We had a great experience with Astrum Solar,” said Wendy. “Everyone was remarkably patient and helpful and responsive. The folks there are really excited about what they do, and unlike other companies that do other kinds of home improvement, solar is the only thing Astrum Solar does – it’s their specialty, not a sideline. I felt better going with a company with that kind of focus.”
For the Halls, going solar was even more rewarding than they’d imagined. “Going solar has made us aware of how much power we use, and that we have some control over it, “said Richard.” We’ve been inspired to be more energy-efficient, turning off lights and appliances that we’re not using, and buying energy-efficient appliances. Having a visible impact on your carbon footprint is a neat thing.”
From Wendy’s perspective, “It feels great to go solar and to know that you’re providing a tiny piece of a solution to a huge problem. And it’s such an easy thing to do. Astrum Solar has that slogan, ‘See a sunny day in a whole new way’ and it’s so true! Before, on a sunny day, I’d think, ‘What a beautiful day!’ Now, I think, ‘It’s a beautiful day and we’re producing so much energy!’ It’s very exciting.”
