Rob started thinking about going solar thirty years ago (a record amongst our customers) but realized that he was ahead of his time. “I wanted to go solar completely for environmental reasons, but there has to be a payback.

When he built a new house nine years ago, solar panels were still not economical. But he designed the house to make the most of “passive solar energy” through the orientation of the house, the size of windows, and tree placement. He also installed a geothermal system for heat and air conditioning.

The Astrum guys put double the capacity on my roof, and everything fit. Plus, they came up with options for higher efficiency panels. And working with Astrum Solar was great. They were very responsible, and both technically and financially very competent.

Finally, last year, Rob decided that the time had come. He contacted a solar installer, who came to his house, studied the architectural plans, gave him an estimate, and never followed up. Shortly thereafter, Rob saw an Astrum Solar truck in his neighbor’s driveway. “I walked into my neighbor’s house and asked him about Astrum Solar. He said, ‘These guys are great!’”

“Astrum Solar came to my home, and immediately impressed me by going on my roof and measuring, and looking at the angle of the sun. The other installer didn’t do this,” said Rob. “But what really blew my mind was that Astrum came back and said they could fit twice as many panels on my roof as the other company. I wanted to get as many panels on my roof as possible, and this was a dramatic difference.”

“The Astrum guys put double the capacity on my roof, and everything fit. Plus, they came up with options for higher efficiency panels. It was quite impressive,” said Rob. “And working with Astrum Solar was great. They were very responsible, and both technically and financially very competent.”

Even though Rob’s home was environmentally cutting-edge even before solar panels, going solar was still a thrill.  “Having solar panels is awesome! It’s great! One of my only regrets is that the panels are on the back of my house and no one can see them. When I tell people I’ve gone solar, everyone thinks it’s the coolest thing in the world.”
