When Dave and Gina lived in Honolulu, they had a solar hot water system, which they were very happy with. “When we moved to Maryland, the wintry northeast,” Dave said, “it didn’t occur to me at first to get solar panels for our house. But I like idea of generating my own power, for environmental and geopolitical reasons.” So he did his research, and in the process, discovered that Maryland actually gets 95% as much sunshine as Florida, and that, with tax breaks, solar was financially very feasible.

Shortly after Dave and Gina started to think about hiring a solar company, they got an invitation to a solar open house in their neighborhood. One of their neighbors had just had panels installed by Astrum Solar, and were so excited about going solar that they decided to hold an open house to share their wonderful experience with their neighbors.

They did the job on time and all went right as planned. The way they handle the paperwork for the (Home Owners’) Association and the tax rebates is really nice − it would have been quite a time investment and probably a hassle.

Dave and Gina attended, liked what they heard about Astrum Solar (including the fact that Astrum Solar had successfully handled all the dealings with their local Home Owners’ Association – no mean feat) and hired them.

“We had a good experience with Astrum Solar,” said Dave, “starting with their website. They have a calculator that allows you to plug and play with different variables and shows the cost and the payback – it’s a really good tool.”

“Everyone was knowledgeable and professional,” he said. “They were very responsive. Even when I sent them emails at 7 o’clock in the evening, they’d get back to me almost immediately. They had ready answers to all my questions – about the system, the roofing, the run-off from the rain, etc. They did the job on time and all went right as planned. Gina added, "The way they handle the paperwork for the Association and the tax rebates is really nice – it would have been quite a time investment and probably a hassle.”

“It’s really great being solar,” said Dave, “even in the winter. On a clear day, even if it’s cold, the system performs wonderfully. I sent out a note to my friends in early January – it was right after the big snowfall, it was 21 degrees F and sunny, and at 1:00 PM, our panels were generating over 5,000 watts. The summer will be even better.”

Dave checks his performance using the web-based monitor at least once a day. When he travels, he checks the weather at home. “I root for the clouds to go away,” he said. Dave’s advice to people considering going solar: “If you do it, you’ll be really happy with your decision!”
