Jason first considered the possibility of solar electricity about 15 years ago. “I’m a systems engineer, and a bit of an electronics geek. I build electric radio controlled vehicles as a hobby,” said Jason. “For me, the idea of harnessing substantial energy from the sun is the holy grail of renewable energy. But I’ve long perceived that photovoltaic solar for a home was both cost-prohibitive and technologically immature. It just wasn’t practical.”

Working with Astrum Solar was a very good experience. Everything they said they were going to do they did. It all went off without a hitch.

Then, in September of last year, a co-worker of Jason’s in Virginia had panels installed by Astrum Solar. “Based primarily on her recommendation of Astrum Solar, I contacted them. I also did extensive research on the technology they recommend. As a result of this, and my initial conversations with them, I felt comfortable moving forward with them,” said Jason.

“When I received the quote from Astrum Solar, I was completely floored by the low out of pocket cost. Pennsylvania incentives are such a sweet deal that my out of pocket cost for an 8kW system was less than $9,000. I even called my accountant and said, ‘Is this for real?’ He confirmed it.”

“Working with Astrum Solar was a very good experience. Everything they said they were going to do they did. It all went off without a hitch. They handled all the paperwork, including permitting and grant applications. All I had to do was sign the contract and write a few checks.”

“I’m extremely happy with my system,” said Jason. “Even in January, a few days from the winter solstice (the day with the fewest sunlight hours of the year), my system generated 43 kWh in one day, the equivalent of 65% of my average daily power consumption at that time of year. So my electricity bill for January was about 65% lower than it would be without my panels. I plan to add another 3 kW of panels soon so that I can cover at least 80% of my electricity usage and save even more money.”
