Bill and Lisa have had an interest in both solar and wind power for several years. Their goal is to achieve as much energy independence as possible by the time they retire. They would like to be able to power their barn and their home almost entirely with energy generated on their farm. Their location made wind a less than optimal choice, but the picture was brighter for solar, especially when Bill discovered that there are not only generous federal tax incentives available, but also a sizeable state rebate.

The Checks chose Astrum Solar for several reasons. “Astrum Solar offered a more efficient system than the other companies, because they use microinverters. They were more detailed in their analysis of how much power the system could produce, and how much our trees would affect the performance of the system. They were the ones who crawled around on the barn roof and measured everything,” said Bill.

“Working with Astrum Solar was a very pleasurable experience,” said Bill. “The whole thing was very easy. They always did what they said they were going to do. Every time there was an issue, they solved it before I even knew about it. Our installer even made a special placard with directions for the utility company to make sure they could find the cut-off when they came to connect our system to the grid.”

“We’re pretty excited about being solar,” said Bill. “We’re already seeing the results, even in the cold weather. The studio and barn used to average 17kW a day and now, they use only 7kW a day.”

Bill had one suggestion for Astrum Solar: “Don’t change a thing. Keep a good thing going.”
